To start its much awaited low-cost carrier in India, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has given its no objection certificate to AirAsia India. The company is yet to take an Air Operating Permit before kick-starting its operations in India.
In a press release, AirAsia, the Malaysian airline company submitted a request to start a joint venture to begin AirAsia India earlier this year in partnership with Tata Sons and Arun Bhatia of Telestra Tradeplace. It got a formal approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India in April.
AirAsia will continue with its preparations and get itself ready for take-off once the Air Operating Permit is acquired, the company's Chief Executive Officer Mittu Chandilya said.
