Three members of Parliament (MPs) from Belgaum region have urged the Centre to expand the existing Sambra airport to facilitate air travel to Mumbai, Goa and other domestic areas. The state government has already allotted more than 370 acre for expansion of the airport located 12 km away from the city. As per the demand of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the government provided land but construction was delayed. AAI is now expected to take steps to extend the runway and provide additional facilities at the airport.
