Central Government planning to decongest the national capital

As reported, massive projects worth an investment of Rs 31,930 crore are in the pipleline to decongest New Delhi. These include developing the Dwarka Expressway at Rs 6000 crore. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has undertaken projects worth Rs 31,930 crore to decongest Delhi and the NCR region and minimise vehicular pollution. Similarly, MoRTH has undertaken works worth Rs 12,000 crore on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and works worth Rs 6,000 crore on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Bids have also been invited for the Dwarka Expressway costing Rs 6,000 crore.

This apart, as reported, most works in terms of development of major injunctions on NH-8 in Gurgaon is to be executed at Rs 1,000 crore, and the construction of a flyover at Hero Honda Chowk entailing Rs 170 crore has been carried out. The first leg of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, which includes India’s first 14-lane highway and 2.5 m- wide cycle track, is awaiting inauguration. The project has been completed with a record 14 months, well ahead of the scheduled 30 months timeline. The 135-km-long expressway envisages signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Budh Nagar (Greater Noida) and Palwal.
