Hyderabad to have two new flyovers

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), with an idea to streamline the traffic and to have a smooth vehicular movement, has decided to construct two new flyovers – one from Aramgarh to Zoo Park and the second, from Nalgonda crossroads to Owaisi junction. The two flyovers are to be taken up under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

The routes are a part of the the high traffic zone category and have large number of residential clusters as well as commercial establishments. The traffic often leads to accidents and is awaiting for measures to be taken to smoothen the vehicular movement. Accordingly, the municipal corporation has roped in consultants to study the conditions on both road stretches and prepare a report along with recommendations on feasible alternative.

With several religious structures located all along the routes and scarce availability of road space, the consultants have recommended flyovers here. The STUP Consultants, in its report to the civic body, has reportedly recommended a four-lane flyover from Nalgonda crossroads till Owaisi Junction and the cost of the project has been estaimated to be around Rs 523 crore. The proposed four-lane flyover will cover a distance of about 5 km. For the Aramgarh to Zoo Park route, another high traffic zone, the consultants have recomended a six-lane flyover amouting to about Rs 636 crore.
