Pimpri Chinchwad to have about 60,000 affordable houses by 2022

Around 60,000 affordable houses based on public-private-partnership (PPP) basis will be built in all eight zones of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) by 2022. The project will be carried out under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY), for which tenders have already been invited. As reported, around 2.5 FSI will be given for the project. The construction agency will have to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) in consultation with PCMC and get it approved from the state and central appraisal committee. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has reportedly issued PPP models for the policy. The corporation has set a deadline of a month for the interested builders to apply, after which the applications will be scrutinised by the state government for approval. As reported, the builder providing maximum number of apartments will be selected. Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has been assigned as the state-level nodal agency that will implement the project. The state government plans to build around 19.40 lakh affordable houses by 2022.Currently, PCMC has the capacity to fulfil 10,000 housing units, while the remaining 50,000 tenements would be fulfilled with private land owners. Last month, the standing committee approved 2,376 affordable houses at Charholi and Ravet under PMAY. PCMC will build 9,458 tenements in Dudulgaon, Borhadewadi, Wadmukhwadi, and Chikhli area of the city.
