The home ministry has raised objections when it comes to allowing foreign direct investments in the Railway sector, as such a move may compromise security of the country´s largest transportation network. The Commerce and Industry Ministry objected by circulating a draft in the cabinet note for inter-ministerial consultations proposing 100 per cent FDI in areas such as high-speed train systems and dedicated freight lines. They state that there should not be FDI in highly sensitive parts of the railways.
