In a bid to retain traffic, Kochi port has decided to not increase its tariff for the next three years. The port management fears that any upward revision in tariff could lead to the diversion of cargo to other ports, and this decision was taken inspite of the fact that the port has been
incurring losses for the last three years. The vessel-related charges are collected on the basis of gross registered tonnage as well as the period of stay of vessels at berths.
