The Maharashtra government is planning to develop its ports by seeking the tag of a national port for two projects in Sindhudurg. Of the six ports under development by private players, work on two in Sindhudurg – Vijaydurg and Redi being developed by HDIL and Earnest Group, respectively – have been stonewalled due to environmental issues. The Ministry of Environment and Forests had imposed a moratorium on the projects in August last year.
