Mormugao Port Trust is in discussion with various cruise liners for plans to develop cruise tourism. This will serve as an alternate source of revenue at a time when iron ore cargo volumes have declined. The Supreme Court has imposed a ban on iron ore mining in the state following allegations of widespread irregularities. The shipping ministry has instructed for the port to be developed as a cruise terminal to tide over the crisis.
