SUTP aims to strengthen implementation capacity
The central government introduced the Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) in 2010-2011 and it has partly been implemented since then.
The objective of the project is to strengthen capacity of the central government, state governments and cities in planning, financing, implementing, operating and managing sustainable urban transport systems.
This is also intended to assist states and cities in preparing and implementing certain demonstration “Green Transport” projects as pilot project towards reduction of green house gases in the urban environment.
In addition, proposal to include the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Hubli-Dharwad in Karnataka in the SUTP is at the final stage.
This information was given by the Minister of Urban Development Kamal Nath in a reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
