Jaya Varma Sinha becomes first female Railway Board Chairman


The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has officially approved the appointment of Jaya Varma Sinha as the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. Taking over from Anil Kumar Lahoti, Sinha's tenure is set to commence on September 1, 2023. Notably, she will become the first woman to hold this esteemed position. The Indian Railways also previously witnessed its first female member of the Railway Board, Vijaylaxmi Vishwanathan.

A distinguished member of the 1988 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, Jaya Varma Sinha is currently serving as the Member (Operations and Business Development) of the Railway Board. Her ascension to this role comes at a significant juncture, coinciding with the Indian Railways receiving an unprecedented budgetary allocation from the central government.
