AAI technical team visits Sipasarubali area of proposed Puri airport
A technical team of seven-member of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) undertook an on-spot verification of the Sipasarubali area in the outskirts of the pilgrim town, for the proposed international airport in Puri. The team visited after Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the AAI had already sent a complete report for an international airport at Puri to the Odisha government and is waiting for the response on developing a greenfield airport at Puri. The team includes four officials of AAI from Delhi and three from Bhubaneswar airport. They had surveyed Sipasarubali in Puri Sadar block and examined the land map and other documents in the presence of the Sub-Collector of Puri, Bhabataran Sahu. CM Naveen Patnaik wrote to PM Narendra Modi, seeking to set up an international airport at Puri. The AAI has approved 1,500 acres of land at Sipasarubali near Girala in Brahmagiri Mouza, Puri district, after conducting a pre-feasibility study last year in June. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, V K Singh, said that implementing the airport project includes obtaining necessary approvals from the central government, while the project proponent is concerned with the state government.
