AAI To Take Over Lengpui Airport, New Plans Discussed

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu assured Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma that the Airports Authority of India would formally submit a proposal to take over Lengpui Airport, the only airport in the state. The proposal will be examined by Mizoram authorities.
The leaders met in Delhi with senior Airports Authority of India officials to discuss the pending takeover and explore the possibility of building a new greenfield airport in southern Mizoram. They also reviewed heliport development under the Pradhan Mantri – Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (PM-UDAN) scheme. Naidu committed to pursuing the proposal for the new airport.
The meeting also addressed wider aviation sector plans, with both sides recognising the need to improve air connectivity to support Mizoram’s economic growth.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma later met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to thank him for approving a Mizo Territorial Army Battalion, which will be raised by June and is expected to generate jobs for local youth. Singh informed that private schools in Mizoram can apply to partner with Sainik Schools under the Public-Private Partnership model.
Lalduhoma also urged the Defence Ministry to declare the state’s highways as strategic for better maintenance.
