Assam Leads Northeast in Highway Projects


Assam has the highest number of ongoing National Highway (NH) projects in the Northeast, with a total investment of Rs 392.4 billion. The state also has the longest road length under construction, according to official data.

Arunachal Pradesh has two NH projects covering 815 km, with an investment of Rs 80.3 billion, while Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura have fewer projects and shorter road lengths. Across the region, approved NH projects total Rs 433.2 billion, while projects under construction amount to Rs 873.6 billion.

Assam leads in budget allocation for NH development and maintenance with Rs 53.3 billion, followed by Arunachal (Rs 34.8 billion), Manipur (Rs 15 billion), Nagaland (Rs 12.3 billion), and Tripura (Rs 5.1 billion).

All NH projects in Assam, Arunachal, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura are expected to be completed by 2028, with efforts to streamline land acquisition, expedite approvals, and improve coordination to avoid delays.
