Bescom Joins BBMP to Help Crack Down on Unauthorised Constructions

In a significant step towards curbing illegal developments in Bengaluru, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has extended its support to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in its drive against unauthorised constructions.

In a circular dated 5 April, Bescom directed its chief and superintendent engineers in charge of commercial operations and management to adhere to the instructions outlined in a letter received from BBMP. The move signals a coordinated effort between civic and power supply authorities to curb unlawful building activities in the city.

As per the circular, Bescom will assist BBMP by disconnecting electricity to properties identified as unauthorised constructions, thereby strengthening enforcement mechanisms. This measure is intended to serve as a deterrent to those flouting zoning and building regulations.

The joint action comes amid growing concerns over rampant illegal constructions across Bengaluru, which not only strain urban infrastructure but also pose safety risks. By leveraging utility services as a regulatory tool, authorities aim to enforce compliance and uphold civic order more effectively.
