The Bihar government has requested the Railway Board to approve six key railway projects to strengthen the state’s infrastructure and connectivity. Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena addressed a letter to Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, highlighting the need for additional lines and improved services.

The proposals include a bridge over the Ganga between Ara and Chapra, and a circular train service on the Buddhist Circuit Rail Corridor to improve access to Bodh Gaya and Rajgir. Meena also suggested suburban transport networks for South and North Bihar and a regional transport network around Patna to support five proposed satellite towns.

Bihar’s population density of 1,388 per square kilometre far exceeds the national average, but its rail track density remains below par at 5.31 km per 0.1 million population compared to the national average of 9.81 km.

The Chief Secretary also requested a third and fourth railway line on the high-demand Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–Buxar–Ara–Patna–Kiul section. These projects aim to reduce pressure on current infrastructure and meet growing transport needs across the state.

Meena assured full state cooperation for timely implementation of these proposals.
