BMC plans innovative flyover route beneath Mumbai Metro Line 2B

The CD Barfiwala Lane flyover's elaborate design has been revealed. For a specific distance, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to build the flyover next to the Mumbai Metro Line 2B flyover. The Airport Authority had asked BMC to look for a different way to build the flyover. As a result, the BMC has made the decision to investigate whether it would be possible to construct the flyover underneath the Mumbai Metro 2B line.

Planning for this flyover was started by BMC back in 2016, and they later hired two consultants. The civic body changed the flyover's route so that it runs parallel to the Metro line in light of the existence of the Metro station. The Airport Authority of India owns the land this new walkway crosses.

January 2023 saw the approval of the plan to reimburse the AAI for land expenditures in the amount of Rs 111.6 million. The BMC also suggested building a 1.65-kilometer flyover at a cost of Rs 4.3629 billion during this time.

As per the accepted plan by the BMC last week, on June 7, 2023, AAI authorities informed the BMC that construction above ground level is prohibited on airport land due to height limits. AAI suggested that the BMC look into the possibilities of constructing the flyover underneath the Metro 2B line in response. In response to this recommendation, the BMC decided to hire a consultant to determine if building the flyover beneath the Metro line would be feasible.
