C CARES 2.0 Portal Launched for Coal Workers' Welfare
Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G Kishan Reddy, has launched C CARES Version 2.0, a revamped digital portal of the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO), aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in Provident Fund (PF) and pension disbursements for coal sector workers. Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the platform was unveiled in the presence of senior Ministry officials and CMPFO representatives.
CMPFO, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Coal since 1948, serves over 3.3 lakh PF subscribers and 6.3 lakh pensioners. The upgraded C CARES 2.0 platform is designed to unify coal workers, coal management, and CMPFO on a single digital interface, allowing real-time claim tracking, seamless processing, and faster settlement of dues through direct benefit transfers.
Minister Reddy described the portal as a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” and stressed its role in promoting accessibility, transparency, and worker empowerment. He also encouraged regular updates and feedback integration to keep the system responsive to worker needs.
Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to worker welfare, while Additional Secretary Smt Rupinder Brar praised the rapid development of the project.
The direct benefit transfer module, developed in collaboration with the State Bank of India, automatically updates PF and pension ledgers based on coal company data submissions. Initially deployed in five regional offices—Godavarikhani and Kothagudem (SCCL), Asansol-I (ECL), Bilaspur (SECL), and Nagpur (WCL)—the module will be extended across all CMPFO regional offices from 1 July.
C CARES 2.0 also includes a mobile application enabling members to view their profile, employment history, PF balance, claim status, and submit grievances. A chatbot assistant is available to provide information support.
Additionally, the platform features a dashboard module for both coal companies and CMPFO, offering claim settlement analytics, custom reports, and predictive tools to improve service delivery timelines.
This digital initiative marks a significant step forward in ensuring social security, transparency, and operational excellence for India’s coal workforce.
