Centre Approves Rs 250B Amaravati–Hyderabad Expressway Project
The central government has approved the Amaravati–Hyderabad Greenfield Expressway, a major infrastructure initiative estimated to cost Rs. 250 bn. The expressway will significantly reduce travel time between the two capitals and stimulate economic development across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The project was greenlit following a high-level meeting led by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan in February, involving senior officials from 15 central departments, including transport, steel, petroleum, and railways. The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Ministry of Roads, Transport, and Highways to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Additionally, the Centre has directed the preparation of a roadmap for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) for northern Telangana.
Officials confirmed that the entire funding, including land acquisition, will be provided by the central government. The proposed expressway will be a six-lane corridor, bypassing existing road infrastructure to ease congestion and enhance connectivity.
The expressway is expected to boost investment, job creation, and economic activity along its route, fulfilling pending commitments under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
