Centre to Redevelop Key Railway Stations in Odisha's KBK Region


In a significant step towards regional development and infrastructure modernisation in Odisha, the Indian Railways has launched a comprehensive redevelopment initiative under the Amrit Station Scheme for key railway stations across the KBK (Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput) districts, with an investment of over Rs 2,750 million. 

The stations identified for redevelopment under the scheme include: 
  • Balangir: Rs 180 million 
  • Titlagarh: Rs 357.9 million 
  • Kantabanji: Rs 338.7 million 
  • Kesinga: Rs 208.5 million 
  • Bhawanipatna: Rs 188.3 million 
  • Rayagada: Rs 414 million 
  • Muniguda: Rs 201.6 million 
  • Koraput: Rs 212 million 
  • Jeypore: Rs 179.4 million 
  • Damanjodi: Rs 144.6 million 
  • Harishankar Road: Rs 166.6 million 
  • Khariar Road: Rs 162.5 million 

The scope for Gunupur railway station is also being worked out, railway officials said. 
The project aims to transform rail infrastructure in the region by equipping the selected stations with modern passenger amenities, sustainable design, and enhanced accessibility. The modernised infrastructure will include redesigned station buildings, upgraded ticketing systems, and improved platform surfaces. 

The scheme emphasises green building techniques, solar energy solutions, water conservation systems, and waste management practices. It will also include high-speed Wi-Fi, digital information boards, clean and modern toilets, state-of-the-art security systems, and improved catering facilities. 

The redevelopment project will be implemented in phases, with a focus on timely execution, railway officials added.
