Delhi Airport Ranks Among Top 10 Hub Airports
The
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has been recognised among
the top ten hub airports in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region, according
to the 2024 rankings released by Airports Council International Asia-Pacific
and Middle East (ACI APAC & MID). IGIA is the only Indian airport on the
list and is ranked tenth.
These
hub airports act as central connection points for flights, enabling efficient
transfer of passengers and cargo. The new ‘Hub Connectivity Index’ launched in
the 2025 edition evaluates airports on transfer viability, timing efficiency,
connectivity reach, and routing effectiveness.
Delhi
Airport currently provides connectivity to 153 destinations — eighty-one
domestic and seventy-two international. It handles 56 per cent of all
India-origin long-haul weekly flights and connects to eighty-eight per cent of
the country's long-haul destinations. In recent years, over twenty exclusive
international routes have been added, including destinations such as Tokyo
Haneda, Montreal, Vancouver, and Washington Dulles.
