DRDO & IN Test Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile
The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the Odisha coast. The test, conducted at around 12:00 PM, demonstrated the missile’s Near-Boundary-Low Altitude engagement capability.
Launched from a land-based vertical launcher, the missile intercepted and destroyed a high-speed aerial target at close range and low altitude, showcasing its agility, reliability, and pinpoint accuracy. The test was conducted in full combat configuration, with all system elements, including an indigenous Radio Frequency seeker, Multi-Function Radar, and Weapon Control System, performing as expected. Flight data from ITR Chandipur’s range instruments validated the system’s effectiveness.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as a testament to India’s advanced defence R&D capabilities, calling the missile a significant force multiplier for the Indian Navy. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat also commended the teams involved, stating that the missile, equipped with modern technologies, will further strengthen the Indian Armed Forces.
