Expedite filing RERA posts, HC tells Gujarat government

The Gujarat High Court has called on the state government to expedite the appointment of vacant positions within the Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority Appellate Tribunal (RERA Appellate Tribunal). This plea for swift action by the government follows the recent appointment of Justice (retd) R M Chhaya as the chairperson of the RERA appellate tribunal.

The High Court has formally disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought the speedy appointment of a chairperson and technical member. These positions had remained vacant since June 2021 and September 2021, respectively. The bench, led by the Chief Justice, noted that these vacancies were only filled in September, and that too, only after the High Court issued specific directives.

Expressing concern over the significant delay in filling these crucial posts, spanning over two years, the High Court emphasized the need to prevent such delays from occurring in the future. This call for prompt action aims to ensure the effective functioning of the RERA Appellate Tribunal and the efficient resolution of real estate-related matters in Gujarat.
