Global Experts Inspect Polavaram Project Components in Andhra

A four-member team of international experts visited the Polavaram project site in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh, to inspect major infrastructure components and assess the progress of ongoing works. Their inspection focused on the buttress dam, diaphragm wall, Gap-1 section, and the project’s quality control laboratory.

The panel emphasised the importance of quality in the upcoming diaphragm wall works and reviewed test reports to ensure standards are met. Their primary attention is on finalising the designs for Gap-1 and evaluating the feasibility for developing Gap-2.

The expert team held a review meeting with officials from the state’s water resources department and representatives from the project’s contracting agencies to discuss progress and technical assessments. The team includes Richard Donnelly, Sean Hiinchberger, Gianfranco Di Cicco, and David B Paul.

They will continue inspecting multiple components of the Polavaram project and provide guidance on design strategies until May 8. Their recommendations are expected to play a key role in strengthening the structural plans and timelines for the completion of this critical national infrastructure.
