Kanpur Metro: KPIL installs Steel Girders

The successful installation of two 30-m -long steel composite box girders across the Naubasta Flyover in corridor 1, which runs 23.785 kilometres from Kanpur to Naubasta, marked a significant milestone for the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project. The steel girders were erected six metres above the flyover's deck, which spans national highways 19 and 27 (NH-19 and NH-27), as part of Package KNPCC-07. This important location is ideally situated between the stations of Kidwai Nagar and Vasant Vihar. Thus far, Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) has launched 25 and 28-metre-long U-girders successfully in order to construct the 5.27-km viaduct for this stretch. But the large breadth of the flyover required the deployment of longer, stronger steel girders. Four additional shorter steel girders will be installed in the coming days. KPIL was given the Rs. 5.14 billion KNPCC-07 civil contract by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) in June 2022. Five elevated stations will be built in Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baudh Nagar, and Naubasta as part of this project. The Cabinet of the Central Government gave its permission to the 32.385 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1 in February 2019. On March 8, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the project's cornerstone. The priority part of Kanpur Metro Phase 1 is currently operational and runs 8.7 kilometres between Moti Jheel and IIT Kanpur. By December 2024, the final section of Phase 1 should be finished.
