Kolkata Metro Records 13.3% Passenger Growth in FY 2024-25


The Kolkata Metro Railway reported a 13.3 per cent increase in ridership for the fiscal year 2024-25, transporting a total of 218.1 million passengers across its four corridors. This marks a rise from the 192.5 million passengers recorded in the previous fiscal year.

Blue Line Performance: The Blue Line, spanning from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash, maintained its status as the busiest corridor, carrying 189.3 million passengers—a 5.51 per cent increase compared to 179.4 million in the prior year.

Green Line Developments: The Green Line, which includes the Sealdah-Salt Lake Sector V stretch and the Howrah Maidan–Esplanade section, exhibited notable growth. The Sealdah-Salt Lake Sector V segment saw a 15.57 per cent rise in ridership, reaching 14.1 million passengers, up from 12.2 million. The Howrah Maidan–Esplanade section, inaugurated in March 2024, recorded 13.9 million passengers.

Purple and Orange Line Updates: The Purple Line, operating between Joka and Majerhat, experienced a substantial 31.34 per cent increase in ridership, with over 176,000 passengers, up from 134,000. The Orange Line, connecting Kavi Subhash and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, served 592,000 passengers during the year.

These figures reflect the Kolkata Metro's expanding reach and growing reliance among commuters in the region.
