Liebherr Wins Digitalisation Award
Liebherr has clinched the prestigious Bauma 2025 Innovation Award in the ‘Digitalisation’ category for its cutting-edge product ‘Liebherr Autonomous Operations’. The autonomous system, tailored for Liebherr wheel loaders, enables driverless, fully automated operations—reshaping workforce efficiency and redefining operational safety on construction sites. Designed by Liebherr-Werk Bischofshofen GmbH, the innovation offers intuitive, user-friendly functionality without requiring specialist IT knowledge, enabling users to automate repetitive loader tasks while focusing manpower on higher-value work.
The announcement came during an evening ceremony held at the International Congress Centre of Messe München, preceding the start of Bauma 2025, the world’s largest trade fair for construction machinery, vehicles, and equipment. The innovation award—now in its 14th edition—recognises game-changing developments across five categories. This year’s competition saw 208 entries, with only 15 making it to the final round. Liebherr had three finalists, with ‘Liebherr Autonomous Operations’ ultimately taking top honours.
Two additional Liebherr innovations also reached the finals. The ‘Positioning Pilot’, a semi-automated crane driver assistance system, was nominated in the ‘Machine Technology’ category. It enhances site safety and precision by enabling sway-free, pre-programmed crane movements. Meanwhile, the futuristic S1 Vision—a single-axle, high-payload haul truck co-developed by Liebherr Corporate Ventures AG and Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co.—was also a finalist for revolutionising material transport in mining, construction, and agriculture.
This recognition continues Liebherr's legacy of innovation at Bauma. In the previous edition, the company earned accolades for its R 9XX H2 hydrogen excavator, reflecting its commitment to sustainability.
The Bauma Innovation Award is organised by VDMA, Messe München, and other German industry bodies, aiming to spotlight technologies that boost sustainability, safety, and efficiency. With over 50,000 staff and a €14 billion turnover in 2024, Liebherr’s continuous technological push underscores its role as a global leader in construction solutions.
