Lucknow–Kanpur Travel Cut to 40 Mins via New Expressway

Commuting between Lucknow and Kanpur is set to become significantly faster and greener with the launch of the Lucknow–Kanpur Elevated Expressway, scheduled to open this month. The new 95-kilometre corridor will reduce travel time from nearly three hours to just 40 minutes, marking a major upgrade in intercity connectivity.
Designed for light vehicles including cars and two-wheelers, the expressway will feature a 100 kmph speed limit. Final works are being completed along the Sarojininagar, Banthra, and Junabag stretches, after which the expressway will be fully operational. The corridor is expected to support trade, education, and industrial growth in the region by offering faster and congestion-free travel.
In a parallel move towards sustainable urban mobility, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a pilot project to deploy privately operated electric buses on 10 routes each in Lucknow and Kanpur. The initiative will function under a net cost contract model, where private operators will bear all operating expenses, while the state government provides charging infrastructure.
The goal is to phase out conventional city buses and transition towards cleaner electric alternatives. These electric buses are expected to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and offer a more efficient and eco-friendly public transport system.
Together, the expressway and electric bus initiative signal a transformative shift in Uttar Pradesh’s mobility infrastructure, promising enhanced commuter experience, lower emissions, and modern, future-ready transport solutions.
