MERC Approves Tariff for Procurement of 5 GW Solar Power

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved a tariff for the procurement of 5,008 MW of solar power by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). This power will be sourced under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) – 2.0, with the approved tariff ranging between Rs 2.82 and Rs 3.10 per kWh.

MSEDCL had filed for tariff approval after completing a transparent tendering process for solarising agricultural feeders. This approval will aid MSEDCL in meeting its renewable purchase obligation (RPO) and supply daytime electricity to agricultural consumers. The procurement will also help reduce overall power procurement costs for the state.

MERC also approved MSEDCL’s proposal to procure 13 MW of wind-solar hybrid power at a tariff of Rs 3.60 per kWh.
