Mizoram CM Seeks New Airport, Heliports under UDAN

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma held a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi to discuss aviation development in the state. The agenda featured three key proposals — the establishment of a new greenfield airport in South Mizoram, heliport development under the PM-UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, and the formal handover of Lengpui Airport to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The proposed airport in South Mizoram is expected to boost regional connectivity, while the expansion of heliports under PM-UDAN aims to improve last-mile access in remote locations. Additionally, the transfer of Lengpui Airport operations to AAI is intended to streamline aviation management and bring it under national infrastructure planning.
The Union Minister later shared via social media that enhancing air connectivity in Mizoram is vital to national interests. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the ‘Act East, Act Fast, Act First’ policy, highlighting the strategic and economic importance of better aviation infrastructure for the region.
