A new underpass connecting Dadar and Prabhadevi to Worli, part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), is expected to open for public use by the end of May. The 550-metre-long and eleven-metre-wide tunnel is being constructed beneath Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road using the Austrian Tunneling Method. It begins at JK Kapur Chowk and exits near Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk.

The tunnel will support one-way, southbound vehicular movement and is designed to offer faster access to commuters travelling from Dadar, Prabhadevi and Worli towards Bandra, Marine Drive and Nariman Point. It will also integrate with the twin arms of the Worli Interchange—one leading to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) and the other connecting to Marine Drive via the MCRP.

This new infrastructure forms part of the larger 10.58-kilometre Mumbai Coastal Road Project, which connects the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the BWSL. The Rs 130 billion project includes a 7.5-kilometre sea-facing promenade with green spaces, jogging tracks and seating areas, stretching from Priyadarshini Park to Worli.

Tata Sons Limited is enhancing a 4.35-kilometre median along the route as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to improve the aesthetic value of the corridor.
