Despite initial concerns over potential delays in finalizing the car shed for the project, recent developments have reaffirmed that the Metro 4 and 4A projects are advancing as planned. Earlier this month, the state cabinet granted approval for the allocation of 170 hectares of government-owned land at Mogharpada, with approximately 42.2 hectares designated for the construction of car sheds to serve the metro lines.

Sanjay Mukherjee, the Metropolitan Commissioner, disclosed that the bid submitted by SEW-VSE (JV) L1, amounting to Rs 905 crore, was selected as the most cost-effective option. The proposed depot is envisioned to encompass 64 stabling lines, including 32 for the current phase and provisions for future expansion. Additionally, it will feature 10 inspection bay lines and workshop lines, alongside an operational control center, administrative facilities, maintenance and workshop buildings, auxiliary substations, staff quarters, and other essential infrastructure.

The appointment of contractors for these critical components of the Metro 4 and 4A project signifies a substantial stride toward its timely completion, marking a significant enhancement in Mumbai's transportation infrastructure.
