NLC India with Rs 4,400 cr to set up methanol project in Neyveli

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), which is a Navaratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Coal, plans to invest Rs 4,400 crore to set up a methanol project using lignite in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu.

This project will be the first of its kind in the state, with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day or 0.40 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and will be commissioned in 2027.

According to a report, NLCIL has urged the Ministry of Coal to include the project in the Centre’s proposed production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme to provide a financial incentive for every unit of product sold.

The PSU has appointed Engineers India Limited (EIL), which is also a Navaratna PSU body under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as the project management consultant for the project.

EIL’s experience in the hydrocarbon sector, with NLCIL’s strong project implementation team and experience would successfully help in project completion.

National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog will monitor the successful implementation of this project.
