The Noida Authority has approved the construction of a 400-metre-long circular skywalk at the Sector-62/63 intersection near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Estimated to cost Rs 400 million, the project aims to benefit nearly 50,000 pedestrians daily by enhancing safety and streamlining traffic flow.

Designed with a modern circular layout, the skywalk will feature an iron roof for protection against rain and heat. Escalators and lifts will be installed on both sides to ensure accessibility for senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities.

The skywalk will link to the existing foot overbridge on the highway, offering a safe and seamless connection for pedestrians travelling from Ghaziabad to Noida. Initially proposed as a simple overbridge, the project was revised after surveys revealed the need for a more comprehensive solution. The detailed project report has been prepared and received in-principle approval, with the design currently under review by IIT.

Daily foot traffic at this intersection includes commuters from Delhi, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Noida, many of whom rely on buses and auto-rickshaws. The new structure aims to eliminate the current traffic disruptions caused by uncontrolled pedestrian movement.

This initiative is part of a larger infrastructure upgrade plan by the Noida Authority, which includes developing a 3.5-kilometre model road from Sector-62 to Mamura. This busy corridor services thousands of daily commuters and includes metro stations, office buildings, and residential societies. To reduce congestion during peak hours, the authority will widen roads, build footpaths, create parking zones, and redesign three U-turns between NH-9 and Mamura Chowk.

Furthermore, a designated auto-rickshaw stand will be established at the NH-9 entry point to mitigate traffic jams caused by unregulated three-wheeler movement. The tender has been issued, and several agencies have shown interest in executing the project.
