Odisha to Build Paradip Airport and Heliports in 14 Districts
The Odisha government has announced plans to establish a greenfield airport in Paradip and construct heliports across fourteen districts to enhance the state’s aviation infrastructure. The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on aviation and network construction.
The state also resolved to expedite development of the proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport in Puri and upgrade existing airports, including Rourkela. The meeting outlined improvements at regional airports in Jeypore, Dand Bose, Rangeilunda, Gautama, Satibhata, Raisuan, Tushara, Jamadarpali, Malkangiri, Amarda Road and Utkela, aimed at improving flight connectivity and local access.
Additionally, the state government plans to develop the Biju Patnaik Aviation Centre at Birashol in Dhenkanal. The works department has been designated as the nodal agency to speed up implementation of these infrastructure projects.
Chief Minister Majhi directed officials to prioritise public airport infrastructure, improve aviation efficiency, and expand regional aviation services. The initiative is part of the broader goal to strengthen Odisha’s air travel network and support regional economic growth.
