Odisha’s longest rail tunnel completed in Khurda-Balangir project

The Khurda Road–Balangir rail project saw a major breakthrough with the completion of Tunnel T-4, a 4.18-km stretch between Adenigarh and Charichhak stations in Boudh district. Completed on April 16, it is not only the longest tunnel in the project but also the longest in Odisha.

Out of the 301-km project, 226 km has already been commissioned—covering the Khurda Road–Daspalla and Balangir–Purnakatak sections. Work on the remaining 75 km, which includes seven tunnels, is progressing steadily.

The successful daylighting of Tunnel T-4 is expected to speed up construction on the final stretch and bring Odisha closer to linking its coastal belt with the western interior. Once complete, the rail line is set to improve connectivity, boost regional development, and promote economic growth.
