Palayam to Be Revamped as Thiruvananthapuram’s New Nightlife Hub
Palayam in Thiruvananthapuram is poised to emerge as the city’s second dedicated nightlife destination, following the success of Manaveeyam Veedhi, as part of the Smart City beautification initiative. The transformation focuses on a 200-metre stretch between University College and Kerala University Library, aiming to turn it into a vibrant space for art, leisure, and community activity.
The Rs 18.0 billion project, led in collaboration with the Kerala Road Fund Board and K-Rail, features smart gardens, ornamental landscaping, ambient lighting, public Wi-Fi, cultural performance zones, a snack bar, kiosks, and disabled-friendly walkways. It will also include a video wall, audio systems for announcements, and stone carvings narrating the history of the nearby VJT Hall.
Smart City officials say the new Palayam hub will promote a safe and lively nightlife atmosphere in the heart of the city. Scheduled for completion by the end of May, the space is expected to surpass even Manaveeyam Veedhi in both aesthetic and functional appeal
