PM Modi Inaugurates Rs 10 Bn Rewari Bypass

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated a Rs 10 billion outer bypass in Rewari, a key infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic inside the city and streamlining the movement of heavy vehicles.

Built under the Bharatmala project, the 15-km stretch is already reducing congestion and pollution by diverting trucks and long-distance traffic away from city roads, officials said.

“This bypass has cut my daily commute by 30 minutes,” said Rohit Yadav, who travels to Gurugram for work. Local teacher Sunita Devi added, “It's a huge relief, especially for children. The roads used to be choked with trucks and dust.”

Proposed nearly a decade ago by Union minister and Rewari MP Rao Inderjit Singh, the project faced delays but eventually took shape after construction began in 2020. Land from 1,274 farmers across 18 villages was acquired in 2018, and a RITES survey helped get it approved under the Centre’s highway plan.

Since opening, the bypass has sparked real estate growth on Rewari’s outskirts, with locals nicknaming it “mini-London” due to the wider roads and emerging housing clusters.

The bypass may also connect with future metro expansions in the region, though details on funding and timelines are yet to be finalised.
