SJVN Releases Rs. 2.7 Bn for Etalin Hydro Project Land Compensation
SJVN Ltd, a state-owned hydropower company, has released Rs. 2.7 bn in land compensation for the 3,097 megawatt Etalin Hydro Electric Project in Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. The compensation was deposited in a joint account of the District Commissioner and DLRSO on 26 March 2025. The project involves the construction of two dams, on the Dri and Talo (Tangon) rivers, along with an underground powerhouse complex. It is scheduled to be commissioned by December 2033.
The update was shared by Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge) of SJVN, during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu. Khandu assured full support from the state government for timely project clearances. Chaudhary stated the compensation marks a major step in ensuring inclusive development and honouring the rights of local communities. The Etalin project is part of a Memorandum of Agreement signed in August 2023, covering five hydro projects in Dibang Valley with a combined capacity of 5,097 MW, representing an estimated investment of Rs. 600 bn.
