The West Bengal government is preparing approximately 7.09 acres of land at the Kharagpur General Industrial Park in West Midnapore for industrial allotments. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Limited (WBIDC) has invited quotations for conducting a detailed land survey to demarcate plots on the designated land, which forms part of the larger 205.65-acre Kharagpur Industrial Park.

The selected survey agency will develop a site plan and bird’s-eye view of the land using information provided by WBIDC. The survey will also involve superimposing the data on the mouza map of the area. A detailed land schedule will be developed, with boundaries marked using Electronic Total Station (ETS) equipment and wooden pegs, anchored with global coordinates fixed via Differential GPS (DGPS). Pillars will be installed to permanently demarcate the plots.

The Kharagpur Industrial Park, established in 1976, is located in Nimpura, about 7 km from Kharagpur town. Haldia Port is the nearest seaport at approximately 127 km, with Kolkata Port located around 138 km away. Presently, 28 industrial units operate within the park.

According to an official, the initiative to allot plots forms part of a broader push to utilise unused industrial land and streamline processes for setting up new industries. The effort falls under the Scheme for Approved Industrial Park (SAIP), which received Cabinet approval in 2021.

WBIDC, the state’s nodal industrial promotion body, has developed multiple industrial parks including Vidyasagar Industrial Park in Kharagpur, Panagarh Industrial Park, Rishi Bankim Shilpaudyan in Naihati, Foundry Park, Rubber Park, Food Park in Howrah, and Raghunathpur Industrial Parks in Purulia.
