Haworth is expanding its manufacturing operations in India with a second facility at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, strengthening the country's role in the company's global production network.
The workplace furniture manufacturer, which entered India in 1997, said the new plant will support domestic demand while increasing exports across the Asia-Pacific region. The facility, currently under construction, will double the company's manufacturing space and produce key Haworth products, reducing dependence on imports.
Haworth established its first manufacturing unit in India in 2005 with a seating facility in Pune, followed by workstation production near Chennai in 2011. Manufacturing operations were consolidated at Sriperumbudur in 2014.
The existing Chennai facility spans 21,000 sq m and integrates metal fabrication, plastic moulding, upholstery and workstation manufacturing under one roof. It also houses an in-house pre-BIFMA testing laboratory for product validation.
According to the company, the Chennai plant operates on 100 per cent renewable energy through on-site solar generation and Energy Attribute Certificates and follows a zero-waste-to-landfill policy. Its India-manufactured products are certified under BIS standards IS 17631:2022 and IS 17633:2022.
Praveen Rawal, Vice President – Sales, Asia Pacific, said India has become a key manufacturing and growth market for the company, driven by demand from Global Capability Centres and modern workplaces. Manish Khandelwal, Managing Director, Haworth India, said the expansion reflects the company's long-term commitment to manufacturing products in India for both domestic and international markets.
