Andhra Pradesh Thermal Output Crosses 6,000 MW
Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) Managing Director S Nagalakshmi said operational efficiency improved across plants through equipment restoration, the supply of high gross calorific value (GCV) coal and closer coordination with suppliers.
She said systematic improvements in coal quality, timely financial support and targeted maintenance have strengthened operational stability across APGENCO’s thermal plants, enabling a record generation of 6,009 MW. These measures have ensured reliable electricity supply to meet the state’s growing industrial and domestic demand.
Thermal units recorded generation gains of up to 200 MW following the restoration of electrostatic precipitators and rectification of induced draft fan blades. Focused technical and maintenance interventions were carried out at key facilities, including the Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station and the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project.
High- and medium-GCV coal rakes were supplied to both plants, while rectification works and coal stock availability of up to 10 days at Rayalaseema supported sustained thermal power generation. Strategic coordination with coal suppliers and advance payments to washeries also contributed to improved fuel security.
Financial stability was strengthened through a Rs 10 billion working capital loan and capital expenditure loans for thermal and hydel plants, enabling uninterrupted fuel supply and ongoing modernisation. APGENCO also renegotiated loan terms with banks, reducing interest rates and generating annual savings of Rs 0.6 billion. In addition, Rs 0.17 billion was recovered from previously levied penal interest.
Nagalakshmi said APGENCO will continue to focus on operational excellence, fuel quality improvement, cost optimisation and proactive financial management to sustain reliable thermal power generation in the state.
