Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, along with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, inaugurated the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine in Changlang district, marking the launch of the state’s first commercial coal mining project. The inauguration represents a key milestone in Arunachal Pradesh’s economic development, firmly placing the state on India’s coal and energy map.

To mark the occasion, the Union Minister and the Chief Minister performed a Bhumi Pujan and participated in a tree plantation drive under the “100-tree plantation initiative” at the project site. This was followed by the formal inauguration of the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine, along with the handing over of the mining lease and the flagging off of tools and machinery for the Namchik-Namphuk Central Coal Block, officially commencing mining operations.

Speaking at the event, Shri Reddy described the launch as “a symbol of new hope and a significant step towards energy security and regional development in the North East.” He informed that the mine holds reserves of around 15 million tonnes of coal and became operational from today.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu welcomed the project, emphasising its potential to boost the state’s economy, create employment opportunities, and generate steady revenue for Arunachal Pradesh. He expressed confidence that the initiative would empower local communities and attract investments in the state’s mining and industrial sectors.

The Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine is expected to play a pivotal role in driving development across the North East while supporting India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. The project will not only enhance local employment and industrial growth but also strengthen the region’s contribution to national energy security and self-reliance.
