Raosaheb Danve Patil, Union Minister of Railways, Coal and Mines, has stated that India will produce 1.5 billion tonnes of coal by 2030. The minister also stated that the coal industry must not only produce power but also protect the environment. According to reports, the ministry will rehabilitate farmers whose land has been taken for coal or mining blocks.

In addition, the Ministry of Coal has put 13 coal blocks in Maharashtra up for auction. Union Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Minister Prahlad Joshi informed an investor conclave in Mumbai today that five of these mines are fully explored and eight are partially explored.
