CIL plans large coal-to-chemicals projects in four states

Coal India Ltd (CIL) is setting up four large-scale coal-to-chemicals projects using the surface coal gasification route. The state-owned miner has signed agreements with three other Central Public Sector Undertakings: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOC) and Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL).

The surface coal gasification projects will be set up in West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. CIL will invest around Rs 350 billion on these coal-to-chemicals projects.
