Coal India Raises Average Power Coal Supply to 1.78 mn t Daily

Coal India has increased its average daily coal supply to power plants to 1.78 mn t in October so far, compared with 1.63 mn t per day in September. The higher dispatch comes as the state-run miner maintains increased supplies to the power sector during the first half of FY27.

Coal India’s total coal supplies in September reached 61.20 mn t, up from 54.40 mn t in September 2025. The increase of 6.80 mn t represented year-on-year growth of 12.5 per cent, according to data released by the Coal Ministry.

The company liquidated 63 mn t of pithead coal stocks during the first half of FY27, indicating that the higher supply was supported by both current production and improved inventory utilisation. Power-sector dispatches during September totalled about 48.99 mn t, equivalent to an average of approximately 1.63 mn t per day.

Daily dispatch averaged 1.51 mn t during the first seven days of September and rose to about 1.59 mn t during the final seven days. During the week from September 28 to October 3, the average reached 1.78 mn t per day, with dispatches of 1.74 mn t, 1.79 mn t and 1.71 mn t between September 28 and 30, followed by 1.75 mn t, 1.87 mn t and 1.81 mn t from October 1 to 3.

Coal India’s power-sector dispatch during H1 FY27 stood at 302.8 mn t, compared with 285.4 mn t in H1 FY26, an increase of 17.4 mn t or 6.1 per cent. The power sector accounted for nearly 79 per cent of the company’s total offtake during the period.

Overall coal offtake reached 384.2 mn t in the first six months of FY27, compared with 357 mn t during the corresponding period of FY26. This represented an increase of 27.2 mn t, or 7.6 per cent, supporting coal availability for power generation.
