Coal Ministry Pushes Digital Drive With SWCS Training Session

In a bid to accelerate digital transformation in the coal sector, the Ministry of Coal conducted a hands-on training workshop and interactive session on the Exploration Module of the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) on 25 July 2025. Held at Tagore Chamber, SCOPE Complex, New Delhi, the session aimed to deepen stakeholders’ understanding of the module’s functionalities and encourage its use for efficient exploration-related submissions and approvals.
Ms Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority (AS & NA), chaired the session and stressed the vital role digital platforms play in simplifying and speeding up approval processes. She called on stakeholders to proactively engage with the SWCS portal, underlining its importance for transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
Senior Ministry officials provided technical briefings and addressed operational concerns. In partnership with CMPDIL, the Ministry also offered a live demonstration of the module, giving participants practical insights into its end-to-end digital workflow—covering submission, evaluation, and approval of Geological Report (GR) schemes, compliance filings, progress updates, and final GRs.
The Exploration Module, launched by Union Coal and Mines Minister Shri G Kishan Reddy on 4 July 2025, replaces manual processes with a fully digital system. It allows for real-time tracking, automated communication, and defined timelines, enabling a transparent, accountable, and streamlined approval mechanism.
The workshop saw robust participation from coal block allottees, exploration agencies, and technical professionals, many of whom praised the platform for its user-friendly interface and clarity of process. The interactive format enabled open dialogue, helping resolve implementation-related queries in real time.
As part of the broader SWCS, operational since 11 January 2021, the Exploration Module integrates with the National Single Window System (NSWS) and is being aligned with PARIVESH 2.0 to enhance inter-ministerial coordination. The SWCS also supports other clearances such as Mining Plans, Mine Opening Permissions, and Environmental and Forest Clearances.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to a transparent and tech-driven governance framework. By advancing digital tools like SWCS, it aims to boost accountability, accelerate project clearances, and enhance efficiency across the coal value chain—supporting the national visions of Digital India and Viksit Bharat.
