Coal Output Rises on Strong Captive and Commercial Mine Performance
During the third quarter of FY 2025–26, cumulative coal production from captive and commercial mines reached 54.14 MT, with dispatches at 50.61 MT. The quarter registered year-on-year production growth of 5.35 per cent, indicating consistent performance across mining operations.
On a cumulative basis up to December in FY 2025–26, coal production increased by 9.72 per cent year on year, while dispatches rose by 6.98 per cent compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year. These gains point to improved operational efficiency and better utilisation of mining capacity.
According to the Ministry of Coal, the improved performance is driven by strategic policy measures, closer monitoring and sustained support to stakeholders. The ministry continues to focus on facilitating approvals, expanding capacity and ensuring reliable coal availability to support uninterrupted operations and meet the country’s growing energy needs.
