Dr Mandaviya Reviews DGMS Operations, Stresses on Mine Safety

Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, conducted a review of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) headquarters in Dhanbad, Jharkhand on April 18, 2025. The visit was aimed at strengthening India’s mine safety framework and enhancing the welfare of mine workers nationwide.

Accompanied by Joint Secretary Deepika Kachhal and other senior officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Dr Mandaviya held a comprehensive review meeting with DGMS Director General Shri Ujjwal Tah and senior officers. A presentation was made on DGMS’s structure, objectives, and operational readiness.

The Minister emphasised the need for good governance and state-level coordination to improve occupational safety and health in the mining sector. He also called for adoption of world-class mining technologies and upskilling of DGMS personnel, stressing that technological advancement is key to safeguarding both the industry and its workers.

A mock rescue demonstration organised by DGMS showcased their emergency preparedness, which was highly appreciated by the Minister. The visit concluded with a tree plantation activity at the DGMS premises, symbolising the government's commitment to sustainable practices alongside safety enhancements.
