Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) has officially initiated production at the Gare Palma IV/6 coal mine, situated in Chhattisgarh, marking a significant milestone in the company's ongoing efforts to bolster its raw material reserves. The operation is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting the proposed expansion of the Raigarh integrated steel plant, which currently operates at a capacity of 3.6 million tons per annum (MTPA) and is slated to increase its capacity to 9.6 MTPA.

Bimlendra Jha, the Managing Director of Jindal Steel & Power, emphasized the alignment of this expansion with the vision of "AtmaNirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India). He highlighted that this strategic move would substantially contribute to India's steel production capacity while utilizing domestically sourced coal, promoting self-sufficiency. JSP intends to primarily finance this expansion through internal accruals, ensuring the maintenance of a robust balance sheet.

The commencement of operations at the Gare Palma IV/6 coal mine represents a pivotal development in Jindal Steel & Power's quest for raw material security and its commitment to strengthening India's steel manufacturing capabilities.
